Pneumatic Transfer Systems in Continuous Manufacturing

Many pharma companies are moving from batch to continuous processing as a way to decrease costs while also boosting quality, safety, and efficiency. In the latest issue of Solid Dose Digest, Nilfisk business development development manager Luca Di Siervi explained how pneumatic conveying systems can help manufacturers meet these goals. Read an excerpt below and check out the full article in Solid Dose Digest.
A major challenge in any pharma process is moving materials from one step to the next. For example, at the beginning, you may need to move powders from a mixer or blender to a tablet press or capsule filler. At the end, you may need to move the finished products from a tablet press or capsule filler to a packaging machine.   In traditional batch processing, these transfers are often manual. For example, it's not uncommon for employees to manually scoop materials from bags or sacks into the process equipment.   Manual material transfer is a major source of problems in batch-processing systems...Automated transfer systems help eliminate these risks at transfer points while increasing productivity. Nilfisk's research shows that automation can decrease load times by more than 50 percent.
