First of all, it is important to invest in the right vacuum cleaner to get the job done. Canister vacuums are better for larger surface areas, whereas upright vacuums are good for quick cleans.
Dust before vacuuming
We recommend dusting before vacuuming, this is because dust particles usually get moved around the room when you dust, meaning all your hard work will go to waste. A top tip is to wait at least 2 hours after dusting to get the vacuum out. This ensures you pick up all the settled particles and keep your home allergy-free.
Clean some rooms more often than others
Start with the rooms which you use more frequently within your home, such as the hallway, kitchen and bathroom and don’t worry too much about spaces which are used less often such as storage or guest rooms. You may want to quickly go over the areas of these rooms which get trodden on most, such as walkways, every day and then do the full clean once a week.
If you have pets, we recommend vacuuming the most used areas like sofas and rugs as often as every day too, to avoid a large build-up of pet hair and keep the place looking clean and tidy.
Vacuum carpets and rugs twice per week
On average, we recommend vacuuming your carpets and rugs twice a week to ensure they are kept in good condition. Carpets collect much more dirt and debris than harder surfaces, and this can damage the fibres. The longer you leave it, the harder it is to clean.
Vacuum hard floors once per week
Hard surfaces such as wood, stone or ceramic tiles should be vacuumed around once per week. This type of material doesn’t collect dirt as easily as carpets and rugs, so it doesn’t need to be cleaned as often. However, you will notice that the dirt will build up more in the corners and edges of the room, so make sure you give it a thorough clean with the right type of nozzle, getting into all those nooks and crannies.
Keep your vacuum in top condition
- Replace the vacuum bag or empty the canister when full, don’t let it overload
- Change your vacuum filters regularly to keep your home fresh
- Clean the roller brush by removing hairs or threads
